WKNO PRESENTS THE STARS OF LAWRENCE WELK CONCERT
WKNO is pleased to present the annual Stars of Lawrence Welk Concert, featuring Ralna English and Guy Hovis. The event will be held Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., at the Germantown Performing Arts Centre. Tickets are $25 for WKNO members and groups of ten or more and $30 dollars for non-members. The upcoming performance will include on of the show’s most popular duos Ralna English and Guy Hovis.Ralna, one of the most dynamic performers to ever hit the stages of America, performs more than 125-days-a-year throughout the U.S. and Canada. She appears with Symphony Orchestras from Arizona to Florida, in showrooms from Atlantic City to Las Vegas, and on stages from San Diego to New York. Ralna’s great diversity of music includes jazz, blues, gospel, country, pop, patriotic and songs from the ‘30s and ‘40s. She has been a favorite on the Lawrence Welk Show since 1969, and more than three million people continue to watch her on television each week.
Guy Hovis was one of the featured performers on the Lawrence Welk Show, but is best known as one half of the singing couple Guy and Ralna. They were married from 1969 to 1984 and were one of the most popular singing acts on the show from 1969 to 1982. Guy continues to tour as a soloist and with Ralna. He served as state director for Mississippi State Senator Trent Lott from 1990-2007.
The Lawrence Welk Show began airing on television in 1951 and was an instant hit. It ran for twenty-eight years and continues today with classic performances airing on public television stations nationwide. It airs Saturdays at 7:00 p.m. and Sundays at 5:00 p.m. on WKNO/Channel 10.
