NEW PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT OPENS AT WKNO GALLERY
Starting Monday August 1, Gallery Ten Ninety One at the WKNO Digital Media Center will be featuring the work of area photographer and graphic designer Lauren Beyer. The opening reception for the show will be held at WKNO on Saturday August 6 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The exhibition will feature Beyer’s graffiti photography and digital art style with three genres: “graphotos”, “granature”, and “gra-fire”. “Graphotos” showcase Freight Train graffiti, highlighting graffiti writers’ artistry of colors, textures, layers, and symbolisn. Her photos lift the eye toward fractals and patterns within blades of grass, dots of asphalt, metal reflections and/or cloudy skies.
“Granature” photos focus on delicate details of “nature’s graffiti” and illustrate the unexpected and overlooked. “Gra-fire” photos showcase sky’s graffiti (fireworks) with views capturing lake reflections and the rising moon.
Beyer, a celebrated Memphis photographer says she’s always been taking pictures through her eyes. Her works have also been featured in the Germantown Performing Arts Centre, Playhouse on the Square, Fountain Art Gallery, and the Master Design Studio.
The WKNO Digital Media Center is located at 7151 Cherry Farms Road in Cordova, TN. The exhibit will be open to the public weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The show will run through August 29.
