WKNO Celebrates the Best of the Volunteer State with the Tennessee Channel

WKNO celebrates the culture, history and uniqueness of the Volunteer State each week with “The Tennessee Channel”, airing Saturdays 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Sundays, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. on WKNO2, available over the air on Channel 10.2 and on Comcast Digital Channel 910. A complete rundown of the schedule each week is available at www.wkno.org.

“The Tennessee Channel” is programming for Tennesseans about Tennessee and features productions from all six public television stations throughout the state, plus works from independent filmmakers and award-winning fare from The Renaissance Center, located in Dickson, TN.

Some of the programs viewers will find on “The Tennessee Channel” are:

Jammin at Hippie Jack’s: a half-hour music series with the mission to preserve original singer/songwriters of Americana, Roots, Bluegrass, Blues and Folk music. Recordings take place on two stages in middle Tennessee; the outdoor stage at the annual Jammin at Hippie Jack’s Americana Music Festival in rural Overton County and The Tennessee State Museum indoor stage in Nashville.

First Things First with Julie Baumgardner: a half-hour series that features insightful and meaningful discussions on the dynamics of family life and how to overcome marriage obstacles. First Things First is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to strengthening families in Hamilton County, Tennessee through education, collaboration and mobilization.

Creative License: a series of one-hour specials about the arts, artists and art education across Tennessee. Told in magazine style format, this program features stories about the unique people and personalities who create the arts. We focus greatly on how art changes the lives of people - those who create it and those whom it inspires.

Live Green Tennessee: a series produced in the Upper Cumberland region, which talks with local farmers, gardeners, and neighbors about how our agricultural heritage and local wisdom can help all of us lead greener, more prosperous and healthy lives.

“The Tennessee Channel” also broadcasts to viewers throughout the state WKNO’s own productions such as Southern Routes, The Best Times, and more.

WKNO is a non-profit, private foundation serving the Mid-South for more than 50 years. An important community resource, WKNO uses the power of non-commercial public broadcasting to provide the Mid-South with quality educational and cultural programs that inform, entertain, and inspire.
