Researchers Explore Early Brain Development in
“Class of 2025” on WKNO

WKNO-TV will premiere The Urban Child Institute: The Class of 2025 on Thursday, October 6 at 7:30 p.m. on WKNO/Channel 10. The half-hour discussion with two researchers - Hank Herrod, M.D. (pediatrician and former Dean of UT Medical School) and Doug Imig, PhD (political science and children's policy) – explores their learnings about the critical brain development of children ages 0-3.

According to Herrod and Imig, so much about the future of Memphis is being decided in the first three years of its children’s lives.  It’s in those years that children’s brains are growing at astonishing rates – to 80% of their adult sizes – and it is in every Memphian’s self-interest to do everything possible for every child to have optimal brain development.  That’s because it determines if they are ready to learn when they enter school and whether Memphis has a workforce that can compete in a global economy.

Because of the significance of optimal brain development on the future of Memphis, The Urban Child Institute focuses its work on the health and well-being of children from conception to three years of age.

Herrod and Imig sit down in the WKNO studio to discuss their research with Eric Barnes, host of Behind the Headlines and publisher of Memphis Daily News.

The Urban Child Institute: The Class of 2025 also airs Saturday, October 8 at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday, October 9 at 12 noon on WKNO/Channel 10 and on Saturday, October 8 at 9:30 p.m. on WKNO2, available over the air on Channel 10.2 and on Comcast Digital Cable Channel 910.
