WKNO INTRODUCING SCHEDULE CHANGES

On May 1, WKNO will launch a new schedule for both WKNO 10.1 and WKNO2 10.2. This change is in preparation for the station’s move to a new Digital Media Center on Cherry Farms Road. The move – which will take several months – will require the station to make some major programming changes in order to streamline operations. Complete schedules are available online at www.wkno.org or in ‘KNO: The Members Magazine or by calling Viewer Services at 901-458-2521.

Here are some of the highlights of these changes on WKNO 10.1:

Prime Time: No changes to Sunday - Wednesday lineup. Local programming (Tennessee Crossroads, Southern Routes, The Best Times, Smart Medicine, etc.) regularly seen on Thursdays moves to Fridays at 7:00 p.m. This Old House and a repeat of Antiques Roadshow move into the Thursday night lineup. British syndicated series MI-5 moves up to 9:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Austin City Limits moves up to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

News programming: BBC World News, Nightly Business Report and the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer remain unchanged on weeknights. Tavis Smiley and Worldfocus continue to air weeknights from 11:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight. Bill Moyers Journal remains at 9:00 p.m. on Fridays. Charlie Rose will continue to air tape-delayed at 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Kids programming: No changes to the schedule Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be additional programming for children on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Weekends: Most of the how-to and public affairs programming regularly seen on weekends will remain, but many will be in a different location. For example, Washington Week and NOW on PBS will move to Sunday afternoons at 1:00 and 1:30 p.m. This Old House moves to 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays in addition to the Thursday night showing. The block of local programming moves from the afternoon to the morning on Saturdays.

Highlights of WKNO-2 10.2:

The “Create” schedule of popular cooking, gardening, travel, sewing and crafts shows will increase from 12 hours per day to 20 hours per day.

In prime time, the next day repeats of WKNO’s weeknight schedule continues, along with Independent Lens and Great Performances at the Met on Sundays and encore Masterpiece and Mystery! on Saturdays. Washington Week, NOW on PBS and Bill Moyers Journal will continue to air on Friday nights. Charlie Rose will continue to air at 10:00 p.m. on weeknights.

WKNO will closely monitor viewer feedback to see which of these changes may meet the viewers’ needs better and become permanent.

The public is encouraged to call WKNO’s Viewer Services at 901-458-2521 or e-mail the station at wknopi@wkno.org with comments about these program changes.
