WKNO’s Interview Series “Newsmakers” Features
Senator Mark Norris
WKNO will premiere a new edition of Newsmakers featuring a conversation with Tennessee State Senator Mark Norris on Wednesday, December 14 at 6:30 p.m. on Channel 10. It will repeat at 11:00 p.m. on WKNO2, available over the air on Channel 10.2 and on Comcast Digital Cable Channel 910.
Eric Barnes, publisher of the Memphis Daily News and host of WKNO’s weekly series Behind the Headlines, will host the half-hour interview with the West Tennessee Senator, focusing on the Senator’s game-changing legislation for Shelby County from this past year – the Norris-Todd Bill – and public-school education in Shelby County.
Senator Mark Norris was first elected Majority Leader of the Tennessee Senate on January 10, 2007. He served as Chairman of the Senate Republican Caucus in 2006 and was the first chairman to serve from West Tennessee since 1982. He was re-elected Senate Majority Leader of the 106th General Assembly beginning in 2009 and is the first Republican Majority Leader to serve from West Tennessee in more than a generation.
He represents District 32 which is “the West Coast of Tennessee” including Dyer, Lauderdale, Tipton and Shelby County. Norris was elected to a third term in November 2008. He currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee and is a member of the Finance, Ways and Means Committee, Ethics Committee, and State and Local Government Committee.
“Programs such as Newsmakers,” said Senator Norris, “and stations such as WKNO provide an opportunity for in-depth discussions of important issues that is not available by other means.”
“With our weekly public affairs series Behind The Headlines, along with the interview productions A Conversation With . . . and Newsmakers,” said Michael J. LaBonia, WKNO President and CEO, “we are seeking information for our community that will enable them to more fully understand critical issues that impact them. We believe this is one of the best roles a public broadcaster can assume, and we are proud that we are able to provide this service.”
