FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHOIRS OF CHRISTMAS
WKNO is proud to premiere Choirs of Christmas, highlighting holiday music from Mid-South high school choirs and a special reading from Memphis Mayor A C Wharton.
The five-part half-hour series will air Monday, December 19 through Friday, December 23 at 7:00 p.m. on WKNO/Channel 10 and repeat at 9:00 p.m. on WKNO2. The show will then culminate in a two-hour compilation, premiering Saturday, December 24 at 4:00 and 10:00 p.m. on WKNO/Channel 10 (and 9:00 p.m. on WKNO2).
Choirs of Christmas will feature choirs from Houston and Ridgeway High Schools, St. Mary’s, Hutchison, and Faith Heritage Christian Academy performing some of the most beloved pieces from their Christmas repertoire in the WKNO studios. These songs range from secular music to religious texts, including the traditional Christmas carols.
“We are very excited to be able to let our entire community see all the work the kids have put into this on a daily basis,” said Jacob Craig, Director of Choral Activities at Ridgeway High School. “We are thankful to WKNO for putting our kids in this kind of positive spotlight.”
“These kids are amazing,” said Peter Richards, producer/director of Choirs of Christmas. “Our viewers can get into the holiday spirit with this beautiful music.”
In addition to the music from the choirs, the two-hour compilation on December 24 will also feature the readings of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by Mayor A C Wharton and the Christmas Story from the Bible by children of Incarnation Catholic School in Collierville and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Frayser-Raleigh.
