WKNO SALUTES DONATING ARTIST JIM ANDERSON
Noted potter Jim Anderson has been a long-time WKNO art donor. This year is no different. Jim’s punch bowl made from stoneware pottery is among the many items that will be auctioned off during the premier Art of Fine Living, A WKNO Auction.
The 68-year-old artist, whose studio is in Hernando, Mississippi, has been creating pottery for 13-14 years. “I have always been drawn to pottery,” he said. “When I finally got the chance to do it myself, it was something that I immediately felt very comfortable with.”
A member of the Mississippi Craftsman Guild, Jim has been donating art to WKNO for the past six years. He says he donates because WKNO is his favorite channel. He watches a lot of PBS and wants to be able to support the programming he enjoys, especially American Masters, Masterpiece Theatre, Austin City Limits, and Antiques Roadshow. The children’s programming like Sesame Street was also very important as he and his wife of 30 years raised their two daughters.
Jim’s work, as well as the work of other well-known Mid-South artists, can be bid on by going to the auction website at wkno.org. Bidding on auction items will close online and on-air simultaneously during the live broadcast of The Art of Fine Living, A WKNO Auction. About 200 pieces of art and another 100 exotic travel packages and delicious dining opportunities will be auctioned off live on Channel 10 Saturday-Sunday November 7-8 from 1:00 to 11:00 p.m.
The art up for auction can be viewed anytime online at wkno.org or at the new WKNO Digital Media Center, which is open for previewing Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The WKNO Digital Media Center is located in Cordova at 7151 Cherry Farms Road.
WKNO is a non-profit, private foundation serving the Mid-South for more than 50 years.
An important community resource, WKNO uses the power of non-commercial public broadcasting to provide the Mid-South with quality educational and cultural programs that inform, entertain, and inspire. For more information: wkno.org
