WKNO Hosts Community Workshop on Container Gardening

Cris Hardaway, host of the WKNO monthly TV series The Best Times, a magazine-style show focusing on issues, stories, and personalities of interest to Mid-Southerners aged 50 and over, will be hosting a free workshop focusing on container gardening at the WKNO Digital Media Center on Tuesday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m.

The April 13 workshop will feature a representative of Tennessee Master Gardeners, a volunteer association that helps promote and share gardening information and techniques with the community.  All volunteers are trained 40 hours in horticultural classes and receive 40 hours of hands-on experience through volunteer community service.  Statewide, there are approximately 2,000 active Master Gardeners in 46 Tennessee counties.

The topic of Container Gardening was selected because of its flexibility.  Equally useful to homeowners, apartment dwellers, or residents of retirement communities, container gardens can be created and maintained by people with various levels of physical ability.
Container gardens can be large or small, indoors or outdoors.  While many gardeners like to grow flowers or other decorative plants, herb gardens and mini vegetable gardens are also popular.

The first Best Times Workshop was held in February, focusing on tax preparation help for people over 50. WKNO Volunteer coordinator Sally Stover said, “It’s a great opportunity to give back to an audience that has been very supportive of us for a long time.”

The WKNO Digital Median Center is located at 7151 Cherry Farms Road in Cordova, off Goodlett Farms Parkway between Whitten and Appling Roads. The Best Times Workshop on Container Gardening is free but it is necessary to register to ensure space.  Call Sally Stover at (901) 729-8719.
