William Bearden is Recipient of Silver Telly Award

Memphis, Tenn. – The View from Adams Avenue: 19th Century Memphis and its writer/producer William Bearden were recently honored with a Silver Telly Award. The documentary about Victorian Village premiered on WKNO in August, 2008.

The View from Adams Avenue delved into the past and present of the historic Victorian Village in downtown Memphis. Although many of the neighborhood’s homes no longer exist, the remaining few are a testament to the hard work and seemingly limitless possibilities of the Victorian era, and the struggles and triumphs of the men and women who made Memphis the shining jewel on the Mississippi.

The Telly Awards honor the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions. Since 1978, their mission has been to strengthen the visual arts community by inspiring, promoting, and supporting creativity. The 29th annual Telly Awards received more than 14,000 entries from all 50 states and 5 continents.

Bearden has written and produced many award-winning historical documentaries, including: Visualizing the Blues; Overton Park, A Century of Change; Elmwood- Reflections of Memphis; Playing for a Piece of the Door; Horn Island Journal; The Story of Cotton; and Masters of Florence – many of which made their premieres on WKNO. In addition to this award, he has been recognized with four other Tellys as well as an Aurora, a Videographer, and an Axion Award. He also received the Memphis Advertising Federation’s “Best of Show” honor for Visualizing the Blues.
