WKNO ASSEMBLES LOCAL EXPERTS TO SHED LIGHT ON
THE MORTGAGE CRISIS FOR A NEW "IT MATTERS"
As part of a multi-media outreach campaign to help the Mid-South community in the midst of one of the worst housing crises in recent history, WKNO has put together an expert panel discussion. It Matters: Facing the Mortgage Crisis premieres Wednesday, July 29 at 9:00 p.m.
This one-hour panel discussion features community leaders, industry experts, housing counselors, and representatives from area non-profit agencies discussing how we arrived at this point, where one can go for help if facing a foreclosure, how to protect an investment in one’s home, and what the community must do to stabilize neighborhoods.
Radio personality Tom Prestigiacomo, host of the Memphis Morning View on WKIM-FM, moderates the seven-member panel discussion. The participants include:
- Sam Goff, loan originator with Evolve Bank and Trust, president-elect of the Memphis Mortgage Bankers Association, and host of "House Calls" on NewsRadio WREC
- Dr. Phyllis Betts, founding director of the Center for Community Building and Neighborhood Action, and Associate Professor in the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Memphis
- Israel Henry, Finance Manager of the Shelby County Department of Housing
- Webb Brewer, Director of Advocacy at Memphis Area Legal Services
- Beverly Anderson, Program Coordinator for the Community Development Council and Manager of the Memphis Housing Counseling Network
- Tim Bolding, Executive Director of United Housing, and Board Member of the Tennessee Housing Development Agency
- John Gemmill, Field Office Director with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
Facing the Mortgage Crisis is part of CPB’s Public Service Media Economic Response Initiative and is locally sponsored by Memphis Daily News. Funding for It Matters is provided by The Assisi Foundation and Members of WKNO.
It Matters airs Wednesday, July 29 at 9:00 p.m. and will repeat Friday, July 31 at 8:00 p.m. on WKNO/Channel 10. It will also air Thursday, July 30 at 9:00 p.m. on WKNO2.
WKNO is working closely with the Memphis Public Library and Information Center’s LINC 2-1-1 department, funded by the United Way of the Mid-South. WKNO is encouraging people with housing questions to dial 2-1-1 to be connected with resources that can help.
WKNO is a non-profit, private foundation serving the Mid-South for more than 50 years. An important community resource, WKNO uses the power of non-commercial public broadcasting to provide the Mid-South with quality educational and cultural programs that inform, entertain, and inspire.
