WKNO REQUESTS THE MID-SOUTH COMMUNITY TO SHARE WWII STORIES AND THOUGHTS WWII veterans are passing away at a rate of more than 1000 per day. There is an imperative to collect their stories before they are gone forever. The Library of Congress Veterans History Project is collecting veterans’ interviews and memorabilia to preserve them for future generations at www.loc.gov/vet.
Capturing stories about WWII is one of the main objectives behind the landmark series The War – A Ken Burns Film. The series premiered on Channel 10 on Sunday, September 23 and is airing over a two-week period on Channel 10, WKNO-HD and WKNO2. The series will repeat Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. beginning October 3. The War is locally sponsored by Boyle Investment Company; Saint Francis Hospital – Memphis; Thomas, Hendrix, Harvey, Johnson & Mitchell, PLLC; and Union University/ Jackson and Germantown.
WKNO is asking the public in the Mid-South community to visit www.wkno.org and share their own thoughts, stories and remembrances for others to see. To join this online community discussion, users can go to wkno.org and click on “Share Your World War II story.” Users can upload stories, photos, video and event audio to the site or explore other stories from the area or across the country.
