WKNO INTRODUCES NEW MUSIC SERIES,
SUN STUDIO SESSIONS, TO BE AIRED NATIONALLY
Starting this January, WKNO is pleased to present a new half-hour music performance show recorded at historic Sun Studios. Each half-hour episode of Sun Studio Sessions focuses on one musical performer or group and includes conversations about songwriting, musicianship, and inspiration as well as the spotlighted performances.
Sun Studio Sessions will air Saturday nights at 11:00 p.m. on WKNO/Channel 10, following the popular PBS series Austin City Limits, now in its 34th season. In 2009, WKNO first introduced Sun Studio Sessions in the form of short clips airing between other musical programming. The premiere episode of the series, on January 2, will feature singer-songwriter Jay Nash. Other performers featured in the first season include Amber Rubarth, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Five Times August, and Memphis-based singer-songwriter Amy LeVere.
Sun Studio Sessions is being made available to PBS stations across the country through NETA (National Educational Telecommunications Association).
Sun Studio is an international tourist destination and a designated National Historic Landmark for its unparalleled contributions to music culture for providing the first professional recording opportunities for blues legends like Howlin’ Wolf, B.B. King and Rufus Thomas, as well as discovering music legends Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison, among many others. The historic studio serves as a charming backdrop for these live performances from today’s rising young touring artists
WKNO is a non-profit, private foundation serving the Mid-South for more than 50 years. An important community resource, WKNO uses the power of non-commercial public broadcasting to provide the Mid-South with quality educational and cultural programs that inform, entertain, and inspire.
